Join Our Team – Become a Councillor

Fed up with things not getting sorted — whether that’s the condition of the roads, anti-social behaviour, or the lack of investment in our area? Want to do something about it?

You don’t need to be a politician. Most people who get involved are just local residents who care about where they live and want to make a difference.

Who is this for?

There’s no “type” of person who becomes a councillor.

You might be:

  • Working full-time or part-time
  • Running a business
  • Raising a family
  • Recently retired
  • Just starting out and want to get involved locally

If you care about your area and are willing to step up, you can do this.

What does it involve?

Being a councillor is about dealing with real issues and helping people locally.

  • Helping residents with problems and concerns
  • Working with local groups, schools and businesses
  • Attending meetings and making decisions
  • Standing up for your area when something isn’t right

It’s practical, hands-on, and focused on getting things sorted.

Can I actually do this?

Yes.

You don’t need experience in politics or special qualifications. If you can listen, speak up, and are willing to put the time in, you can do the role. Support and training are provided.

Be realistic about the time

It does take commitment, but most councillors balance it alongside work and family life.

The time involved varies, but is typically between 5 and 20 hours a week depending on how active you want to be.

Why join us?

  • To fix real problems in your community
  • To have a say in decisions that affect your area
  • To stand up for people who feel ignored
  • To be part of improving where you live

It’s not always easy, but it is genuinely rewarding.

Not sure yet?

That’s fine. The best way to start is just to get involved.

  • Support local campaigns
  • Help organise or deliver leaflets in your area
  • Get involved in community action projects
  • Join us out talking to residents
  • Come along to local events
